Following Three Prior DUI Arrests, 23-Year-Old Charged With Felony

A 23-year-old woman with a record that includes three prior DUI cases, was recently charged with felony DUI following another impaired driving incident, reports KIRO 7 News.

Per Washington state law, offenders with three or more DUI charges in the last decade can face felony DUI charges if they continue to drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The defendant, who claimed to be headed to North Seattle’s SeaTac Airport when speaking to police, was driving in the opposite direction of the airport at 10:30 p.m. on March 1st when she was pulled over. The Seattle police described her as exhibiting signs of intoxication in the form of small pupils, garbled speech, and a disoriented temperament. She was taken to King County Jail and assigned a $150,000 bail.

In her previous DUI arrests, the defendant told officers that she uses the hallucinogenic drug PCP. Her three arrests resulted in two DUI convictions and one reckless driving charge. She has a hit-and-run on her record as well, in addition to other traffic crimes and criminal charges that include a recent robbery.

She could be given a sentence of up to 5 years in prison and/or a maximum $10,000 fine, which are the penalties for class C felony DUI convictions defined in Washington state law. Due to her numerous and severe previous convictions, it is entirely possible that she could face more severe consequences — prosecutors described her as a “grave danger to the community who does not follow court orders.”
