St. Patrick’s Day Weekend DUI Statistics in Washington State

Washington State Patrol troopers in Pierce, Thurston, and King Counties have released information on the number of people who drove over St. Patrick’s Day weekend while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reported KIRO 7 News.

Via Twitter, Trooper Johnna Batiste stated that 31 people were arrested for driving under the influence at traffic stops in Pierce and Thurston counties. Four accidents in those counties also resulted in DUI arrests over the weekend.

In King County, there were 59 arrests for driving under the influence during St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Trooper Rick Johnson shared this statistic, also on Twitter. Johnson did not report on whether the arrests in King County were a result of traffic stops or collisions.

St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest drinking-centric holidays in the United States, along with the Fourth of July, New Year’s Eve, and the night before Thanksgiving. The focus on alcohol on these days results in a spike in DUI and other intoxication-related arrests every year.
