On Wednesday, September 18, 2019, an Auburn man was killed in a suspected street racing accident. The man was riding his Suzuki motorcycle on south I-405 when the driver of an Acura moved into his lane. Witnesses reported that it appeared the two men were racing at the time of the accident.

The motorcycle hit the guardrail on the left shoulder of the highway, and the rider was flung from the bike. He died of blunt force injuries.

The driver of the Acura, a Kirkland man, stayed at the scene until police arrived. He said that he was traveling at 70 mph, and sped up to try to pass two motorcyclists who were riding in the same lane.

Officers reported that the man smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot and watery eyes. At the scene, he refused to take field sobriety tests. The man has been arrested and is possibly looking at charges for DUI and vehicular homicide.
